Arnold Clavio does not apologize

With mounting negative reaction to his comments on the Philippine national men’s football team, GMA News anchor Arnold Clavio acknowledged using inappropriate words and pleaded for understanding, but stopped short of issuing an apology.
In a statement released Wednesday, Clavio said that it was not his intention to offend people with his comments. He maintained that the issue was about the sexual harassment complaint filed by former Philippine Olympic Committee president Cristy Ramos against Azkals members Lexton Moy and Angel Guirado.
Clavio made his comments on Tuesday on the morning show Unang Hirit. Reacting to a news report on the issue, Clavio said about the Azkals: “Hindi naman kayo Pilipino, nagpapanggap lang kayong kayumanggi, hindi kayo dito lumaki, mahirap iyun.”
His pronouncements drew swift negative reaction online from Azkals members, football officials, and fans.
Meanwhile, Clavio also thanked people who were one with him in his stand against sexual harassment in his statement.
His statement follows in full.
